Is Umami Just A Vibe Check or is it Truly the Fifth Taste?

It’s always umami this, umami that and never upapi. What is umami other than being a fun word to say? Why does everything I relish have umami? Burgers, pizza, kababs, ramen…they all have umami! But what does that really mean?
